OPERATOR: International Airlines. How can I help you?

RASHID: Good morning. My name is Rashid Nasal. I'd like to book a seat on a plane to Bangkok.

OPERATOR: Have you got a specific date and time in mind, sir?

RASHID: The 11th of June. The morning flight, if possible.

OPERATOR: Yes, sir. Economy or business class?

RASHID: I'd like business class, and a window seat, please. I certainly prefer window to aisle seats.

OPERATOR: Hold on, please. I'll check the timetable for you. There is a flight that leaves London at 8:25 a.m. It arrives in Bangkok at 6:40 p.m. local time. It is a direct flight.

RASHID: That’s excellent. What time should I arrive at the airport?

OPERATOR: You'll have to be at West London Air Terminal by 4:30 a.m. at the latest. The coach leaves for the airport then. If you don't travel on the coach, you should arrive at the airport before 6:00 a.m. You can collect your ticket at the airport booking office number 10.

RASHID: Thank you. Oh, and what about the airline company?

OPERATOR: Oh, sorry. It is Oman Air. One last thing, do you need a return ticket or a one-way?

RASHID: One-way, please. I’m heading back home.

OPERATOR: That’s nice. Thank you. See you in the office.

RASHID: Bye.

8.2 Read and answer

Read the story about Kim's holiday below and then answer the questions that follow.

My family always flies to Mexico in June to visit my grandmother. My mum makes the reservations online, and she also checks the weather forecast to see what kind of clothes we need. I don't like going through the airport before our flight; the terminal is crowded and the line at the check-in counter can be so long. Then, after we check our luggage we have to stand in line again to go through security!
I really don't like to empty my pockets, take off my shoes, and put everything in a tray to be checked. Then we go to our gate, and sit in the departure lounge until our flight is ready for boarding. We never fight about who gets the window seat because my mum makes us take turns; I get to sit there going to Mexico, and my brother gets it when we go home. My grandmother comes to the airport to meet us, and goes with us to get our luggage from the baggage claim. We spend the next two weeks playing at the beach, shopping, and visiting places.

That is what I call a holiday!
