BOY: This smells great but the soup is too hot.

MUM: Wait for it to cool down.

DAD: Sorry, can we have desserts?

3 Food pyramid

Do you know what a food pyramid is? It is the clever chart that shows the four groups of food with all the nutrients that keep your body healthy and fit.
Sort out the food items into the food pyramid according to pictures.

4 Eating habits

Read the text to find out more about the food pyramid. Match each of the questions with the correct answer.

Eating healthy should be a very important part of your life but it’s OK not to eat healthy all the time as long as you pay attention to your daily diet. As for teenagers, girls should follow a 2,200-calorie-a-day meal plan and boys should follow a 2,800-calorie-a-day meal plan.
The food pyramid includes different foods from five groups and it tells you how much of each type of food you should eat. It has six categories. The largest categories are at the very bottom (foods you should eat the most) and the smallest categories are at the top of the pyramid (foods you should eat the least).
And what do the groups include?

Breads, Cereal, Rice & Pasta This group is the biggest and it means that your daily diet should consist mostly of breads, cereals, rice & pasta. It provides your body with energy and iron.

Vegetables. You should eat at least 3-5 servings of vegetables daily. Vegetables provide your body with vitamins, minerals and fiber.
Fruits 2-4 servings of fruit daily gives your body energy, vitamins and fiber to help digestion.

Milk, Yogurt & Cheese They are very important for a teenager's development because they help increase bone density. This prevents broken bones, fractures and osteoporosis.

Meats, Poultry, Fish, Dry Beans, Eggs & Nuts give your body protein and iron for proper functioning and energy.
Fats, Oils, & Sweets This is the smallest group on the top of the food pyramid. You shouldn't stop eating them completely but you should try to eat less of these foods.

Always remember that it’s very important to eat good foods. You should also exercise regularly, and you shouldn’t skip breakfast. In this way you will pay more attention at school and stay healthy, fit and focused.
