1 Listen and compare

Listen and compare your school to the one described.

Hello. My name is Marcus and I live in Finland. I’m 12 and I go to school. The school starts between 8:00 AM and 10:00 PM. Our school names the classes after animals that live in Finnish forests. There are the Bears, the Foxes, the Owls and the Wolves. Also, there are the Beavers, a class of pupils with disabilities. They arrive by taxi each morning.

Some pupils learn in the classrooms and some in the workshops. We walk around, collect information, ask our teacher for advice and work with others. My friend Peter even rests on the sofa every day.

In our school, the lesson lasts for 90 minutes. We spend the break outside, regardless of the weather. We use the sports field for football in the summer and skating in the winter.

Pupils do chores every day. Our school calls this learning by doing. We take care of the plants, library, yard and the aquarium. The school serves lunch in our school canteen. The classes end between 12 and 2 p.m. and our parents pick us up around 4 p.m.

2 Listen and fill

Listen to the description again and fill in the grid.

Tuesday is really long. I've got Art, English, Maths, History, and double Science. There is even a drama club after lunch but I am usually too tired for it.

On Wednesday, Lessons start at 8:00 again, just like Monday. I finish school at 12:35 p.m. - the earliest in the week. I have Music, Religion, Maths, English and Geography. In the evening I have my dance classes.

Thursday is OK because I start school at 8:45 a.m. and finish at 1 :30 p.m. I've got double IT, Maths, English and History and no extra activities! I do most of my homework and housework on Thursday. Sometimes when my mum comes home early my family goes somewhere. We like spending time together.

At the end of my week at school, on Friday, I start school at 8:00 a.m. and finish at 1:30 p.m. I have English, Maths, double P.E., Geography and Art. The computer club starts at 2 p.m. I like it a lot. My best friend Mary, often comes to my house and we start the weekend together.
