BOY: I like Halloween. October 31st is my favourite. I like costumes.

GIRL: I don’t. I like pretty things. That’s why I like Valentine’s Day. It’s all about love.

REMEMBER BOX

Cardinal and Ordinal numbers
When referring to a specific date in the day-month date format, use cardinal numbers. We normally use ordinal numbers when we “speak” of dates. For example, we say first of January two thousand and seventeen but write 1st January 2017.

5 Say it

Finish the sentences below by saying the dates out loud. Watch out for the rules and check the remember box once again.

  • Christmas is on
  • Halloween is on
  • Valentine’s day is on
  • Mother’s Day is on
  • Father’s Day is on
