Listen to Ching Li talking to her grandmother. Are the statements True or False?
CHING LI: Grandma, how did you talk to your friends before phones?
GRANDMOTHER: Hm, do you think that I am that old? We used to have a phone in our house.
CHING LI: Only one phone?
GRANDMOTHER: Yes, one phone which was in the living room.
CHING LI: How did you text your friends then?
GRANDMOTHER: Text messaging didn't exist before mobile phones, so we didn't do it.
CHING LI: How did you use to make arrangements with them then?
GRANDMOTHER: We used to talk on the phone.
CHING LI: In front of everybody? Hmm, how did you have a private conversation then?
GRANDMOTHER: Well, we used to have a private conversation when we visited each other.
CHING LI: Did all your friends use to live near you?
GRANDMOTHER: Most of them did, but I also had a friend who moved to the USA so we used to write letters because it was very expensive to talk on the phone.
CHING LI: Letters? No Skype, emails, online chats? I can't imagine my life without them.
GRANDMOTHER: Those things didn't exist so everything was different.
CHING LI: So what did you use to do with your friends back then?
GRANDMOTHER: We used to visit each other, talk or listen to music, go to the cinema or just walk or cycle together. Every Saturday, we would get together in the town centre, then decide where we would go.
CHING LI: Have you got any photos from that time?
GRANDMOTHER: I think I have a few. I had a camera, which I got for my 18th birthday, but I rarely used it because it was very expensive to develop photos.
CHING LI: How many friends did you use to have?
GRANDMOTHER: I had 3 good friends.
CHING LI: Three? I have like 500 online friends!
GRANDMOTHER: 500? And do you see them regularly?
CHING LI: Not really, only a few of them.
GRANDMOTHER: So, things are not so different from what they used to be.
